The mineral sets (groups of two or more minerals) in a rock can provide clues to the pressure and temperature conditions under which the rock was formed. The figure shows the pressure, in kilobars (kb), and temperature relationships of six minerals (A, B, C, D, E, and F). As temperature and/or pressure changes, one mineral may react to form another. A given mineral is present only along its respective line and in the field on one side of the line.
