Precipitation events and drought affect a stream's discharge (rate of flow) at a given time. The discharges of 3 streams (Streams 1-3) in the same drainage basin were recorded continuously over a 10-year period ending in 2002. Figures 1, 2, and 3 show the daily average discharge of Streams 1, 2, and 3, respectively, for a 3-month period of drought during 2002. In addition, Figure 1 shows the maximum and minimum daily discharges of Stream 1 during the 3-month period in 2002. Each figure also shows the historical daily average discharge of the respective stream, obtained by averaging the daily average discharge for the same 3-month period over the 10 years. Table 1 shows the area drained by each stream.
